Washington State Things to Do: 178 reviews and 283 photos

Go to Seattle! Try renting a kayak and paddling around the Sound - beach at Gasworks Park to rest and enjoy a snack, then paddle through the channel where the University of Washington rowing teams paint their annual team slogans. There are little rivulets of water you can follow that dip under the 5 interstate. Lots of places along the shore have yummy blackberries in the late summer; ready for the picking! You can also peek at the fabulously ostentatious mansions along Lake Washington.
There are some great old movie houses in Capitol Hill, along Broadway. Catch a foreign or indie flick there.
Downtown has a great art museaum, and of course there is the pier - the best place for fresh produce, fish, and cool finds like clothes and artwork.
Greenlake is a fun place to hang out with the locals - rent a paddle boat or rollerblade the 3 mile course around the lake, then drop into Zeeks (formerly Guido's) Pizza for a slice and a beer.
Good restaurants abound in this city. I think it is second only to San Fransisco as the American gourmand capitol.
The Sonics and Mariners live in Seattle if you like watching sports. The Mariners have a new ball park with a retractable roof, which is really nice.
This city is clean, beautiful, very accessible by bus or foot, and has tons of great food. There are also lots of good cd stores.
