For travelling around during your stay in the Engadin (or Graubünden) it is most economic to purchase a Graubünden Pass. The conditions/prices change from time to time; I can only give you information on the situation in 2011.
The pass is valid for a selected zone or all off Graubünden and it is valide either on 3 out of 7 (non-consecutive, free to choose) days or 5 out of 14 days. I purchased a pass valid for 5 days although I only stayed for one week since I planned to travel extensively on train and bus in the region. I picked the zone Engadin/Scuol. Fortunately this validity of this zone extends far into the Upper Engadin/St. Moritz (until St. Moritz and Alp Grüm on the Bernina route) and also to Davos/Klosters as well as via the Müstair valley to Mals in Italy.
The pass also offers reductions on several other activities, e.g. the Bogn Engiadina (spa) in Scuol - 20% off is not bad!
To use the free days of travel you fill in the respective date or ask the bus driver to stamp it. See picture!
