"Abbey of Benedictine Nuns" Steinfeld Things to Do Tip by ettiewyn

Just a short walk uphill from Steinfeld Abbey, there is another abbey. It belongs to Benedictine Nuns who are living here according to traditions that are centuries old. They have their masses in a small chapel which can be visited. The chapel is a small, simple room. In the middle you can see a big fencing, this separates the nuns from the priest and the rest of the attending people during masses. This is because they live according to the rule that they should not get into contact with other people, at least not with men. When they are to get the Holy Communion, a nun walks to the fencing and unlocks it, the priest enters and gives the Communion, then he walks back and the fencing is locked again. You can see that the tradition is still held very high here, even if it is a little symbolical.
