"Corpus Christi - discrete conservation works." Top 5 Page for this destination Basilica of Corpus Christi Tip by breughel
Basilica of Corpus Christi, Krakow: 8 reviews and 33 photos
Last year I had already visited the Basilica of Corpus Christi (Kosciol Bozego Ciala) what is the third most important church of Krakow but located in Kazimierz at 200 m from Plac Nowy and at the corner of Plac Wolnica.
The outside of the church (from the 15th c.) shows a sober aspect; you can't compare the churches of Krakow with the flamboyant Gothic architecture from west Europe, but inside the churches of Krakow are real jewellery boxes like this one.
This year 2011 conservation works are going on at the high altar. Fortunately the works are rather discrete so that they are not detrimental to the esthetic pleasure of the visitors.
The most amazing pulpit (from 1750) in the form of a boat with mast and sails supported by two mermaids is still well visible on the left of my photo 1. I was again amazed by the fact that each pillar of this church is transformed in a chapel as you can see from photo 2.
They were very few visitors; tourists often ignore that three among the nicest churches of Krakow are located in the former Jewish district of Kazimierz (ref. my tip "Kazimierz churches")
Address: ul. Bozego Ciala 26, Kazimierz-Krakow
Directions: Kazimierz district
