Caffe Vaticano: "A Total Rip-Off Restaurant" Cafe Vaticano Tip by oliverc

This hotel is set up to rip off tourists. They don't show you their menu. Instead they ask you just grab a plate and pick food from a "self service" counter. There are no price tags for each item. The price shock comes after you ask for the bill. Spaghetti with meatballs are priced as two dishes. 12 euros for 4 meatballs and 8 euros for spaghetti. A whopping 20 euros for a lunch dish before you get a drink.
When you get a tray, they automatically give you a bland bread wrapped in plastic. Don't take it. It will cost you a euro for that. It's tasteless and you will throw it away anyway.
I asked for why there are no price tags. The waitress said they have menus. I asked for the menu. She searched everywhere, asked three of her co-workers. Finally three minutes later someone produced a menu from behind the counter where a staff sits.
This restaurant is strategically located to rip off customers. You walk out of the Vatican museum, dazzled, exhausted, and hungry. You walk across the street and the trap is waiting for you. Avoid this restaurant at all cost. Remember: once you walk in to this joint and have your lunch, your money for dinner is theirs as well. There are plenty of other restaurants on the other streets.
Favorite Dish: Their food sucks.
Address: Viale Vaticano 100, Rome
Price Comparison: most expensive
Directions: Directly across the street from the Vatican Museums entrance
