This auberge was previously known as Hotel des Cascades or Hotel Cascade Douzoud - the old edition of the Lonely Planet guidebook on Morocco Ive been using for the past 8 years said back then that the name of this hotel was probably changing....Id stayed here several times but this March when wanting to come and stay and wanting to check when we got to Azilal quite late whether it was open and had rooms...and how much etc even Telecom directory service couldnt help with finding their number.

As usual for March though, and on the reassurance of another friend we called who also reckoned it was a quiet time of year, when we arrived at the auberge it was pretty quiet and they had plenty of rooms....their price had doubled since Id last stayed theyve renovated quite a bit - a good move with ensuites now in each room.

We haggled the price down from 300 dirham to 250 dirham (mentioned the ongoing publicity I create here on VT!) with breakfast included - added a tagine and our bill was not bad really.

Its a tall building with several stories and at least one window per room - pretty much each room will get nice views as the area is well treed. We had 2 windows in ours with one facing the sunrise which was quite pretty to watch appearing over the horizon of olive and wattle trees.

Another reason I like staying here is that its down around the centre of the main path with its shops and stalls that go over to the view point over to the waterfalls and the main path that goes on down to the viewpoints close to the falls and the base.

Its nice to walk over the viewpoint at sunrise for photos of the light changing on the water that is rushing and gushing down..this can also be a good time to see the resident macaque colony in the area. They were up in the rocks above when I did a sunrise walk and then they were down on the path when we went down mid morning.

Unique Qualities: The rooms have been nicely renovated in modern natural earth colours, with ensuites with excellent hot water and water pressure, the bed was really comfortable.

The usual bread and jam breakfast with excellent coffee. Tables outside to enjoy early morning sunlight amongst the plants in the concreted area outside. Otherwise the entrance area come lounge is comfortable for dining and relaxing in as well. REstaurant facilities are available here and even as we did when arrived late were still able to order a tagine and have it up in our room.
