After going to the Kuala Lumpur Gallery and a short walk just beside the Merdeka Square and facing the Sultan Abdul Samad Building is the Royal Selangor Club. This club was formerly exclusive to the British Colonials that even pets like dogs or cats and even the local Malaysian are not allowed entry of become members of the club. The Royal Selangor club was founded in 1884 when the club was nicknamed "The Spotted Dog" as two Dalmatians belonging to the wife of one of the club founders were left to guard the entrance of the club whenever they visited the club. Over the years, the club's membership increased and had also begun to include high-ranking Malaysian civil servants: judges, lawyers and important people in society. At present, the club is exclusively used for members and has many sporting facilities such as swimming, billiard, chess, darts, reading room etc. Food and beverages outlets that serve Japanese, Chinese and local cuisines are among the other facilities here.
