This is a walk through the fields from Scrabster to Holborn Head, the tip of Scotland. You will pass a lighthouse - now a private home - built in 1862 by David Stevenson, an ancestor of Robert Louis Stevenson. On reaching Holborn Head, you will see offshore seastacks that are now home to gulls, guillemonts and puffins. The cliff face is Devonian Old Red Sandstone and is 380 million years old. You will also see memorial cairns which are protected by law. When a local lad went to war he would place a stone on the cairn and retrieve it upon returning home safely. The cairn represents those who didn't make it back. This is a nice walk in a area of solitude. Be prepared for weather and watch your step around the cliff faces.

Address: Scrabster
Directions: Depart from dockside, go up the hill just before the lighthouse, follow the trail to the Head. Minimum two hours. Better longer.
