Pendleton Woolen Mills Factory Store (literally): "Woolen Mill Goods and Crafts" Washougal Shopping Tip by glabah
Washougal Shopping: 2 reviews and 3 photos
Today when you see a "factory outlet store" it is almost always just another chain store without anything really special in it - the same stuff you can find anywhere.
This is not the case of the Pendleton Woolen Mills factory stores, as they are either located inside the old mill facilities, or in the case of the store in Washougal located as part of an active factory that makes wool products. Their retail chain has been operating since 1910, one year after their factory opened in Pendleton, Oregon.
Here in Washougal, the "factory store" is literally part of the factory complex, and the building has in fact served a number of different uses over the years, as you will find out if you take the factory tour.
It is also possible to take a tour of the plant, which I have covered in my things to do tips.
What to buy: Here you will find some of the things Pendleton makes for all of the stores that sell their products, plus some unique other products. This includes the blankets made right here in Washougal. Unique remnant pieces may be found from time to time, as well as sometimes wool yarn and other odds and ends from the production process.
What to pay: Price depends a lot on what it is. Buying Pendleton's wool leftover yarn is much less expensive than buying a full scale blanket or garment! Some of the products they make are quite expensive, but usually are well worth the money due to the quality.
