"Airport Bus from Atocha Renfe Station" Madrid Transportation Tip by hawkhead

Madrid Transportation: 420 reviews and 440 photos

The bus stop can be a little tricky to find. At Atocha Renfe, when you come out of the entrance where all the taxis are, the bus stop is opposite, just slightly to the left - HOWEVER, between you and the stop there are about five lines of taxis, a road for inbound taxis, plus knee-high concrete barriers. Not an easy pathway! You can do one of two things - you can go to your left and keep on going until you come to a crossing, cross and come back to the exit/entrance to the Cercanais (commuter line) station, outside of which is the bus stop. Or you can go down into the Renfe station and follow the signs to the Cercanais station and come up as outlined previously. The bus is bright yellow - and, as the information girl said, is the only yellow bus in Madrid! Runs every 15 minutes to the airport, with stops at a couple of places on the way. Costs ?2. Pay the driver. Plenty of room for suitcases. At busy times you may have to stand. We were on the 06.45 bus and it was standing room only by the second stop, so getting on at Atocha is recommended. Goes to Terminal 1, Departures.
Of course, it also returns to Atocha but we didn't take it that way. However, it leaves from Terminal 1, Arrivals.
