"Christmas Market" Top 5 Page for this destination Pirna Local Custom Tip by german_eagle

Like almost every town in Saxony (and Germany) Pirna has a Christmas Market. It opens 1st Advent and closes one or two days before Holy Eve. It has a lot of potential, especially as it takes place on the romantic, very beautiful Market square, but I must admit I have been to better Christmas Markets.
I never managed to find a Glühwein that actually was yummy, best you can say it was average. Two stalls sold quality products from the Erzgebirge mountains (wooden Christmas items) - and they were *really* very good - but most other stalls were a bit disappointing. The recent addition, the so called "Handwerkermarkt" (artisans market) was tiny and not to exciting. Also, when I visited the market was not very busy; I guess Dresden's excellent Christmas markets are too close so that's where the locals go to.
