william h. grant was a promanent richmond tobacconist who built this beautiful italianate mansion in 1856. in 1892 the home was acquired by the shelterling arms hospital. the sheltering arms hospital offered medical attention to poor virginians. the william h. grant house is listed on the national register of historic places. today the mansion is owned by VCU.
