Fondest memory: Even though I live in Bavaria, I am married to a Saxon girl and with many visits to her family, I have been equally exposed to the beers of her area. Despite being ravaged by the Communist regime that made small capitalistic enterprises like breweries wilt like flowers deprived of spring showers, there is a surprisingly good number of excellent beers. Surely, there would be a lot more if not for the effects of the Iron Curtain but I often wondered if there would be monastic ones like further south when after all even prior to be quartered off, Saxony was under the Protestant spell of Martin Luther. So, fresh from a visit to Kloster Kreuzberg in Bavaria en route with my wife's parents to their area, I happened upon some information about a convent in Saxony brewing beer. Okay, perhaps the sisters were not the plump monks I was seeking but pickings are slim when it comes to brewing of a religious order in the former GDR so who was I to argue with the gender of my discovery. After all, women were the original brewers so why not nuns? (continued below in Fondest Memory)
