The Church of Mary Magdalene served as the main church for Hungarian citizens of Pest in the 1200s (back then, Matthias Church primarily served the German community). Over the years it grew, and like just about everything else in Budapest it was attacked, seized and reclaimed many times over the years. Eventually the building could no longer handle this constant back-and-forth, and after the second world war most of the structure was demolished, and only the tower was preserved. Today it stands, eerily, atop Castle Hill, a skeleton of what it once was.

Address: Kapisztrán tér 6.
Directions: Castle Hill
