There is a beautiful park situated between the Gare du Colmar and the Town Centre. It was named for Jean Rapp, who was born in Colmar and became a great General in Napoleon's army. The Place Rapp was built as a military ground in 1793 and developed (partly) into a public park in 1808. The southern part was still used as a military ground and for exhibitions of sport etc. Today it is a jewel in the crown of Colmar with its beautiful gardens, fountains and of course, the wonderful Carousel, but to me the most important feature is the wonderful statue of Jean Rapp in front of the fountains at the town end of the park. Nothing special about it, but to me it is just a clear reminder of a visit to a wonderful town in the Alsace.

Directions: Walk from the train station to the town centre and you will be able to walk through the park. The statue is at the far end.
