Starobil's'k Local Customs: 8 reviews and 39 photos
Holy Sorrows Convent located at 43 Kirov Street is one of the important historical landmarks of Starobilsk.
It was founded in 1849. The full name of the monastery is Russian Orthodox Church Convent of Our Lady, The Joy of All Who Sorrow. Its architectural complex adorned the city for decades. You can't help admiring its architecture even now.
In 1924 the convent was closed by the Bolsheviks and its premises were used by a Soviet military unit. They were only returned to the church after the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
Now you can attend a liturgy there or simply enter the church and light a candle or two there.
The convent's roadside church is open for public.
All other premises are only used my nuns of the monastery.
