The Traveller's Tree is one of the many fascinating trees we encountered during our visit to Mahe. We first found this tree on our resort and then discovered in in town, along the beaches and in the Botanical Garden. The tree looks like a large palm with it's large green leaves but it is actually a member of the bird-of-paradise family.

The name "Traveller's" comes from the plants ability to hold large quantaties of water in its sheaths that can be used for drinking.
