"A week to travel in Indonesia" Indonesia Favorite Tip by Deng249

Favorite thing: Indonesia is huge. I've been travelling a few times there & still have not managed to cover it. :)

Anyway, with 7 - 10 days, you really need to be selective.

I would suggest, skip Jakarta & travel directly to Jogjakarta. Stay about 2 days there, and cover the Kraton, Taman Sari, Borubudur & Prambanan. The last 2 are UNESCO world heritage sites. They are relatively easy to travel to. Won't be doing much physical activity except for walking & a bit of climbing.

Then travel overland to Bromo, on the East of Java. What I did before to safe some time was to travel at nite. I left Jogja around 8pm, and arrived in Cemoro Lawang past 6am, making a few short stops along the way. Stay overnite there if you intend to catch the breathtaking sunrise, viewed from Mount Penanjakan. Besides the sunrise, you can make a short stop at the Lautan Pasir, basically the inside of the caldera, and walk to Mount Bromo.

Please check if Mount Bromo is safe to visit during that time. It erupted recently and was closed to tourist.

Bromo is about 3 hours drive from Surabaya, where you can make an arrangement for a crossover to Bali. Do spend a few days in Bali, especially Ubud. Bali has a lot to offer, with its beautiful beach, nature and distinctive culture...And if you do have some extra time to spare, then travel to Lombok to snorkel or dive.

Fondest memory: The food & the people.
