Fondest memory: In Chavinda we awoke at sunrise to a choir of roosters and neighing donkies. The sounds from these animals filled the air. In my half awake, dream like state it sounded like a schoolyard of playing children. We slept under the strars the previous night and awoke to a chilly morning. We had no time for breakfast because we had to catch the local Zamora bound bus before the last one left.
Once in Zamora we boarded the cheap bus to Michocan, and after a stop in Quiroga, and a winding drive through the mountains of Michocan we pulled into Michocan's state capital Morelia. Our bus drove past a crowded PRI political gathering and I couldn't help but notice the dozens of armed police and security with their sub-machine guns strapped to their shoulders milling around the well dressed afluent crowd of supporters.
We hiked from the bus station to a hotel called 'Unidad Turista Mintzicuri' on 227 Vasco De Quiroga where we were able to find a good deal on overnight accomidations which cost us about $8 usd. I enjoyed the feel of this city and all of its splendid Spanish style architecture. Photograph: The cathedral in Morelia's zocalo on Avenue Madero Poniente & Avenue Morelos Sur. It was built between 1640 and 1744.
