Kuldiga is a place, mentioned first in 1242 as a stone castle place. In 1368 it got rights to be named as hanseatic town, for some time (1596 ? 1616) it was a capital of Duchy of Courland. Later the importance of town decreased, castle was destroyed in 1702 by Sweedish troops.

Nowadays it is still medieval feeling town with buildings from 17th century left, widest waterfall of Venta river and nic 19th century brick bridge.

Nowadays Kuldiga is a small Latvian town, with population of 13500.

Kuldiga is about 58 kilometers from Ventspils.
