A visit to the Duomo in Milan is usually first on the list of the visitor. This is a truly spectacular cathedral and especially enjoyable if you go up on the roof where you are treated to some of the finest views of Milan. The roof climb also brings you closer to the spires and particularly the main spire which is topped with a bronze statue of Mary.

This is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and is second only to Seville Cathedral in size for Catholic Cathedrals. Some say that St Peter's in Rome is bigger and as buildings and sizes go, they are correct. The difference is that St Peter's is not a cathedral, it is a basilica.

Directions: On the main square in Milan
