"Panteao Nacional" Igreja de Santa Engrácia - National Pantheon Tip by pure1942

  Panteao Nacional

The magnificent dome of the Panteao Nacional rises high above the slopes of Alfama and gazing across at it from the Miradouro on the Largo das Portas do Sol, I initially presumed this to be a church. However, while originally intended to be a church, I later learned that the building is in fact the Panteao Nacional which serves as a memorial building to Portugal?s most important historical figures. Inside the building has displays and tributes to such significant figures as Vasco da Gama. You can climb up to the top floor for views out over Alfama and upwards towards Graca.
