"Counting your money" Cuba Favorite Tip by TOFFY

Favorite thing: When you arrive in Cuba, you can convert your currency into Cuban "Convertible "Pesos at the airport, a bank, or in your hotel. Most currencies are accepted EXCEPT FOR THE AMERICAN DOLLAR. Note, too, that credit cards based in American banks are NOT accepted.
As there is not a lot to buy in Cuba, do not convert too much money. BE SURE, however, to calculate in the DEPARTURE TAX of 25 convertible pesos per person, payable at the airport.
Note that the convertible peso is similar in value to the American dollar, but it is an artificial currency set up for tourists only. The people of Cuba are paid in local pesos, of which there are about 25 to the convertible pesos.
Cubans receiving tips in convertible pesos are now able to use them in special stores set up that charge convertible pesos. These stores usually carry "luxury" items, such as TVs, DVD players, sound systems, washing machines etc. So, as you can guess, convertible pesos are very desirable.
