The building of Ministry of health used to be Institute of Hygiene before and it is one of the representative buildings of post WWII era architecture, built in 1950 by architect Tihomir Ivanovic. Given its location at the intersection of Ali Pasina and Marsala Tita roads and across the road from Ali Pasa mosque, it is the building hard to miss, though you've seen nicer ones. Every period of history in Sarajevo has left its footprints since foundation of the city, bad or good - and perhaps it was not right what had to be destroyed in order to lay grounds for newer creations following 'new states of mind'.

Here, on the grounds of present Ministry building, there was once place of the oldest monasteries, Gaziler tekija from 1462, named upon the word for the road that passed the location: 'Gaziler yolu' meaning 'the way of heroes' or 'put gazija'. It was allegedly built by dervishes and before 1950ies there was a burial ground with 'turbe' (mausoleums) and 'nishan' (a tombstone) of important people in location between the mosque and tekija (nowsadays as you see, there's large, wide road and tram line); some tombstones were upon creation of road moved into graveyard of Ali Pasha mosque and are the oldest existing in Sarajevo.
