"Stop by some of the roadside..." Indonesia Favorite Tip by BorderHopper

Favorite thing: Stop by some of the roadside villages and say hello. Most people are very friendly, even to strangers. Even unexpected visits can become memorable visits.

Fondest memory: On a motorcycle journey around the 530 sq. kilometer island of Puala Samosir my Dutch friend Alex and I got a flat tire. Actually it was his bike that went flat and there were no service stations in sight. He pushed the bike down the road as I set off on my bike in search of a repair man. I stopped at various villages along the way and I eventually came to one between the towns of Ambarita and Simanindo where I found a man who could repair the tire for a small fee. He rode with me on the back of my moto and we found Alex a few miles down the road. We then escorted him back to the village where the men gathered around and fixed the flat. It must have been the event of the day for the children of this village. They loved talking with us and were happy to pose for this photo.
