"See the Burgtheater" Burgtheatre - Austrian National Theatre Tip by BillNJ

The Burgtheater is the Austrian National Theater in Vienna -- and one of the most important German language theaters in the world. The façade still shows the name 'K.K. Hofburgtheater' (from when it was the Imperial Court Theater), but since 1919 the theater is simply known as Burgtheater. The theater is designed in Italian high-renaissance style -- and many sculptures decorate the ornamented façade. The building was heavily damaged by the allies in 1945. The theater was fully restored -- and reopened in 1955.
