One of the oldest churches in Paris, Église Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre was built in 1170. It replaced a previous chapel that had been destroyed during the Norman invasion of the 9th century. The modest church has some interesting Romanesque details, but its façade is from a 17th century partial reconstruction. It preserves a section of the 12th century structure. In 1826, Église Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre became the main church in Paris for the Syrian-based Melkite Greek-Catholic community.
