Mathias Church (Mátyás templom in Hungarian) is located in the heart of the Castle district at Castle Hill beside Hotel Hilton and Fisherman's Bastion at Buda side of the city. It was originally built in Romanesque style of architecture in the 11th century but later renovated to the Gothic style in the 14th century. It received extensive renovation in the late 19th century. It was also converted into a mosque during the Ottoman rule. The church was officially known as the Church of Our Lady, built in honour of King Mathias.
It is one of the finest churches in the city of Budapest and a great tourist attraction at Castle Hill. Don't miss the Mathias Church when you visit the Castle Hill! Opening hours are between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm during the weekdays, between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm on Saturdays and between 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm on Sundays.
