Some of Europe's smaller towns will have one main square which doubles as a "little square" as well. One that springs to mind is the litte town square in Hallstatt in Austria. It is surrounded by lovely little restaurants and shops and is very pretty indeed. My hotel room overooked this square, so I was doubly fortunate. It's very easy to find, just about 50 meters from the ferry terminal.
