Our VT group did the LAKE ANNA WINERY TOUR on Friday. We gathered at the parking lot at the Inn at the Olde Silk Mill and carpooled. Hans and I drove with Dino and Phil. What a riot we had on the way there.
We all arrived a little after 2:00 p.m. and the tour began. Our host was Eric Heidig, who is also the owner of the Lake Anna Winery. We started out in the area where the grapes are loaded from the vineyard and put into these big stainless steel separators where the juice is squeezed out. They then go into even bigger vats where the juice is fermented.
We were then taken to the room where all the wine barrels are, where the juice is aged.
Finally we came to the bottle room, where cases of bottled wine are kept in storage.
After our tour, we went to the wine tasting room, where we each had a tasting of 12 different wines, including reds, whites and even a wonderful ice wine. All for the amazing price of $5.00. And we even got to keep our wine glass.
It certainly was a wonderful experience. Thanks Eric.
Open year round. Wednesday to Saturday 11:00 to 5:00 - Sunday 1:00 to 5:00
There is also a gift shop and a variety of their award-winning bottles of wine for purchase after the wine tasting. Their wines include Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Claret, Seyval Blanc.
