Centrum: artists residences and offices, Ft Warden
by glabah

Headquartered in a few of the old buildings at Fort Warden State Park, Centrum is an arts organization that hosts a number of events, seminars, workshops, and other artists "enriching experiences" centered at the headquarters at Fort Warden, but with events in scattered locations. Some events and performances are open to the public, and others (such as the Artist Residencies and workshops) are obviously far more specialized.

Fort Warden is an ideal location for a number of these events, thanks to the old baloon hanger (converted to performance space) and barracks (converted to artists residences) and various other facilities scattered about the state park. However, in other cases public performances are done in areas outside the park.

There is quite an assortment of offerings going on here, so it is difficult to describe everything in detail. The best thing to do is check the web site for the organization to determine what is going on during the time you will be visiting Port Townsend. Individual tickets are available on the web site, or there is a Centrum Box Office inside the park at 223 Battery Way, open noon to 4 pm to sell tickets to events as well. Each venue also has a box office, and whatever tickets are left over will be sold at this box office beginning one hour before show time. In the case of a weekday show, the sales of the tickets at the main Centrum Box Office will close at 2pm to allow ticket sales to relocate to the venue box office.
