Being a touroid in DC is a serious business. You have a lot of walking to do. Otherwise you might miss something.

The Mall is one of the biggest culprits. How far is it from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial? I don?t know, but it?s not to be sneezed at. Especially if you?re overweight, out of condition, elderly (I think I mean 45+) or have badly fitting shoes.

How many ?must see? sights are there on the Mall? Must be into double figures, unless you count all the Smithsonian thingies as one. And why would you do that anyway?

So what?s the answer? Actually first, what is the question? The question is ?how to survive it all??

The answer - hotdogs & beer.

Location - just outside the Hirshhorn, right on the Mall.

All the trimmings available (sauerkraut, mustard, banana peppers), and you can tempt the squirrels with any leftovers. A dollop of bread with mustard on it makes them jump for joy.

All flippancy aside, this is serious advice from a seasoned (well seasoned - mustard & relish) traveller. Ignore it at your peril.

Address: The Mall
Directions: See above. On the south side, between the Capitol and the Washington Memorial.
