It was the construction of a military road that led to the start of this little village. Barracks were built for the soldiers in 1806 to protect the road and it housed a captain and some 100 soldiers. By the 1850's the barracks were abandoned and it was then turned into a reformatory school for 300 boys. The reformatory closed in 1940 when the building was briefly used as a temporary refugee centre for thousands of German and Polish war orphans. They are currently busy restoring the barracks.
