Cuenca Things to Do: 139 reviews and 419 photos

Located across from the southern side of the New Cathedral and providing a great background to the traditional Flower Market in El Carmen square, the Church of El Carmen de la Asuncion is a quaint white washed church built in a colonial style. The rather squat looking church was constructed in 18th century as a companion church to the monastery of El Carmen, which had been in place since 1682. The church is the perfect backdrop to the pretty El Carmen square and Flower Market, which all combine to give the area a real rural and traditional village feel, especially when the sun is shing and locals are sitting about chatting.

Address: Padre Aguirre & Mariscal Sucre
Directions: From Parque Calderon walk east for one block along Mariscal Sucre.
