In hot pursuit of our goal to visit all 21 California missions, we spent a day at the San Gabriel Mission. Like with the other missions we have seen, it is a very interesting afternoon spent learning about California history while roaming hallowed grounds.

There is lots of information about the history of the mission on their website, so I'll make it very short here: San Gabriel Mission is the 4th of 21 mission spanning along the coast from San Diego to San Francisco. It is still a functioning catholic church conducting weekly services.

Highlights are the six-bell structure at the end of the mission-wall, the beautiful gardens, and the museum-curator (Look for a person strongly resembling Santa Claus - forgot his name, but the fellow has been there forever and is a humorous fountain of church knowledge.)
