Champ de Mars - a large public greenspace located between the Eiffel Tower to the northwest and the École Militaire (The Military School) to the southeast.

Long time ago the Champ de Mars was part of a large flat open area, which was reserved for market gardening.

Te world's first hydrogen-filled balloon was launched from the Champ-de-Mars on Aug.27, 1783.

Also The Champ de Mars was the site of Expositions Universelles in 1867, 1878, 1889, and 1900.

Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel, an RER suburban-commuter-railway station is nearby also.
