"The Famous Village Cathedral" Yelenovka Things to Do Tip by hunterV
Yelenovka Things to Do: 6 reviews and 36 photos
When you enter this cathedral, you feel the air of Pushkin's times.
(the popular local legend says so...)
We were allowed to take pictures inside after I had addressed the chief lay sister.
Also, now I have the blessing of the cathedral dean, Father Alexander (Ponomarenko) to take pictures inside the cathedral. He has seen my Yelenovka pictures for this page and approved of the entire idea of bringing the village closer to the world public.
The laysisters told us a story and were pleased to hear we had known about Yelenovka as Pushkin's Village.
We were even allowed to climb upstairs to the belfry and to ring the church bell once, which is a great privilage I must say! No strangers/first-time visitors are usually allowed to do that in any church. OK, God's will! :-)
Pictures of the cathedral before the renovation
Before the renovation the entire cathedral was whitewashed and looked white.
The renovation was dedicated to the bicentinary of the cathedral and is still under way.
Address: 52 Stepnaya ulitsa (Steppe Street)
