"Calgary Stampede" Calgary Stampede Tip by dewdney

Calgary Stampede, Calgary: 34 reviews and 44 photos

If I was visiting Calgary, I would be interested in the Calgary Stampede, however, for a lot of locals it's a time to flee the city. I would welcome the Stampede as an opportunity to learn about Alberta and the AGrarian culture of the province of Southern Alberta ,but like most huge events, it is very commercial and overpriced. There are some good exhibits featuring cowboy art and and recently more alternative art forms on display. It's always worth checking out the Coca Cola stage because they usually have pretty good musical entertainment. There's also a Nashville North stage which features country music. Indian village showcases amazing ring dancers and a chance to learn about the Blacfoot tribes and other tribes in the area. There are some ancredible stunt riders on BMX and motorcross who perform their stunts as well. There is plenty of fun to be had if you want to get into the Stampede spirit, otherwise it's just another exhibition. Be warned about pick pockets. I had my wallet stolen a few years ago. On the plus side, the fireworks are free every night.
