Lived in the Roxborough area of Philly all my life worked in Souf Philly many years and grew up on Philly cheeseteaks. ( I have girth to prove it! ) I've eaten them in every city on the planet that "think" they know how to make a Philly cheesesteak ( but don't. )

Although it is not a cheesesteak I should mention another Philly fav. The "Pork and Provolone". It's thinly sliced, fall off the bone roast pork marinated in it's own juices for houuuuuurs ! on a Sarcone ( crusty sesame seed roll with a mild or better yet sharp provolone cheese. AWESOME! And the best place to get it is none other than John's Roast Pork ( apptly named ) on Snyder ave at Weccacoe ave. ( next to the railroad tracks off Delaware ave (aka Columbus Blvd. for all you newbies.)

Favorite Dish: Primary ingredients are a steak roll ( Amoroso is the king! ) NOT a hoagie roll ( there is a difference ) the meat ( thinly cut or chopped lean sirloin or prime rib with the fat trimmed off ) the cheese ( provolone makes it a philly original, american is "acceptable", swiss only if your a politician ) and by NO MEANS that yellow liquid crap called wiz! Wiz is something a philly guy does in the alley after drinking all night. Whomever said put Wiz on a philly cheesesteak was only having fun wit the tourist! Now you have it! That's all it takes for an original Philly cheesesteak. Yes, some will ask for toppings like raw or fried onions ( called "wit" meaning with ) or Marinara gravy meaning sauce ( a Pizza steak ) and even adding sweet or hot peppers ( self serve on the counter ) is acceptable but ANYTHING else only makes it a bastardized mutant posing as a Philly cheesesteak.
