We were all ready to jump into the Adriatic after a day of gazing at the best of Byzantium translated into Italian. The question was, where to do it. In keeping with our dual themes (Etruscans and Dante), we chose to go to the Lido di Dante. It turned out to be just fine. Our particular point of entry had a long breakwater, so that the force of waves and current was dissipated. There were adequate guards on duty. It was possible to rent a wonderful contraption which was simultaneously a paddle boat and a water slide -- the children seemed to be having a grand time with that -- or, for those interested in less strenuous pursuits, an umbrella and chaise lounge.

By contrast, a few days later we happened to be in Rimini. May I suggest that you avoid it?

Address: Lido di Dante is approximately 5 miles east of Rav
Directions: Follow the ring road around Ravenna, looking for the sign for Lidi sud, then Punta Marina, Lido Adriano, Lido di Dante. After entering Lido di Dante follow the road to the sea. Parking is available in a municipal lot next to the beach.
