Basilica Santa Maria in Porto, Ravenna: 2 reviews and 7 photos
This grand basilica was built in the 16th century, but its rich Baroque fašade was not completed until the 18th century by the architect Camillo Morigia. The lofty interior consists of three spacious naves, topped by an octagonal cupola, and decorated in a simpler Baroque style than that of the fašade. Within the church is the treasured marble bas-relief of la Madonna Greca, named the "Greek" because it had originated in Constantinople and miraculously arrived in Ravenna in the 12th century. The delicate carving shows a praying Mary with both arms raised.
