a great halfday-trip from Nizny Nowgorod
The Samowar-museum is easy to be found, when you walk through town, close to the river, because it is inside one of the most beautifully decorated houses of Gorodez, see it in my main photo here !
Alexander Newski is shown on a monument close to the Samowar-museum. You might have heard his name maybe because Alexander Newski Prospekt is the name of one of the most important streets in Saint Petersburg.
Alexander Jaroslawitsch Newski was born in 1220 in Pereslawl-Salesski and he died here at November 14th, 1263 in Gorodez. He was the governor of Nowgorod, a russian hero, who won an important battle against the german crusaiders in 1242 and that way he also became a saint of the russian orthodox church.
