Hirano Shrine, Kyoto: 1 reviews and 4 photos
Hirano Shrine is a popular place for Kyoto natives to view cherry blossoms, although foreigners don't often come here. The shrine was designated as one of the top shrines in the nation during the Heian Period, and the court made special offerings here. The cherry blossom trees within the shrine grounds were actually donated and planted by members of the court.
The architectural style of the temple combines the Kasuga-zukuri style with its own unique Hirano-zukuri style. The gate of the shrine was once the gate to the Imperial Palace. It was donated to the shrine.
The grounds are small, but it is a nice shrine with a lot of history. It is a quiet place when it is not the cherry blossom season. Like most shrines, it's free.
