In most countries, when you pass by the Presidential Palace, a heavy police and security presence keeps you far, far from the building. In Panamá, on the other hand, the guards only seem to be there in order to act as a form of crowd management, as they do not even search you as you begin the walk through the parking lot in front of the structure. Pictures of the white building are permitted, as is stopping in front of it, while the armed guards eye you suspiciously. The Palacio de la Garzas is hardly the White House or the Elysée, but it is nevertheless an interesting Colonial building on the waterfront. It is part of the gradually-rehabilitated Casco Antiguo, although the nice part of the structure is not the one that is visible Plaza de la Independencia. Visits to the inside of the house are not permitted.

Address: Avenida Eloy Álfaro
Directions: North of the Plaza de la Independencia
