"Early Roman Ruins" Frankfurt am Main Things to Do Tip by mikey_e

In between the Dom and the Schirn Kunsthalle are well-preserved Roman ruins, attesting to the long history of settlement in the area of the city of Frankfurt. These ruins are fairly significant, as they also contain a hypocaust, a Roman system of central heating that came from the floor of a building. Many cities have open-air ruins preserved in this fashion, but they are usually places that are rich in such ruins, making another display less important in the grander scheme of showcasing the city’s heritage. In Frankfurt, however, there is a general dearth of Roman heritage, so it was a bit surprising to find less of an emphasis on the importance of these remains. Still, it is pretty fun to be able to walk through them and have one’s picture taking amongst the ruins of buildings thousands of years old.
