"The Medieval Garden" Tretower Things to Do Tip by ranger49
Tretower Things to Do: 5 reviews and 25 photos
Leave the courtyard of the house through the archway into the walled garden. This pretty little garden is planted now with a great variety of traditional country cottage flowers and was created using ideas from 15thC. illustrations. In this enclosed space the leisured members of the family took some air whilst waited on by servants. The stone fountain reminds me of many a Norman Font in design. All along the wall, on the road side of the property there is a tunnel arbour - a lovely shaded place to walk through on a sunny day. The arbour extends into the orchard which has been planted with old varieties of apple, pear, almond and quince. But the most spectacular is the splendid mulberry tree.
Access to the much larger expanse of lawn which leads to the Cstle is gained from the orchard.
In both the orchard and in the garden there are a number of picnic tables - but no rubbish bins so please take any leftovers home!
