"Don't Wait to See Beng Mealea!" Phumi Boeng Mealea Favorite Tip by AlbuqRay

Favorite thing: GrumpyDiver told me that when his group was at Beng Mealea in March 2009 that they were the only ones there. When we visited in February 2010 that was not the case. It was not even close to being as crowded as the Angkor temple complex, but there were plenty of people visiting. I have included some pictures of them. Also, the south walkway video and the inner gallery video will give you an idea about the number of people who were visiting. However, it is a huge temple and you can find many places off the regular walking tour that have no people at all. Beng Mealea is no longer a secret and it is really quite easy to get there from Siem Reap. There is even a company that offers a $30 tour. I would estimate that there were 3-4 vans and 7-8 cars in the parking area. Koh Ker was the place that was deserted. If you decide to go to Beng Mealea, you may as well take a long day and do Koh Ker also. The Mandalay Inn offers an excellent one-day tour to both Beng Mealea and Koh Ker (with or without a guide).
