Oldenzaal's train connection to Hengelo is operated by the private company Syntus which means that the OV Chipcards are not valid for that section of any journey and a separate ticket is required.

I didn't have a chipcard but the problem I encountered was that the ticket office in the station's restaurant wasn't open and the automatic machine on the platform didn't take Euro notes or any credit cards.

This meant that when I wanted to go to Maastricht I had to buy a single ticket to Hengelo from the machine (2.50 Euros) and then buy my onward ticket once I'd arrived at Hengelo. The train conductor explained that I could have bought my ticket from her on the train but that would have been much more expensive as there is a penalty fare system for those boarding without a ticket.
