Of course being music lovers we could not miss visiting this church where Chopin's heart has its final resting place. Chopin died in his appartment Paris aged just 39. He is buried in the Pere- Lachaise cemetery in Paris. Chopin was terrified of being buried alive (a thought I hate as well!) so he insisted that his body was cut open and his heart removed - he had alwasy said his heart belonged to Poland. In 1882 his heart was sealed in an urn and then placed behind a tablet bearing his likeness which was carved by Leonardo Marconi.
The Baroque church is lovely, although restoration work while we were visiting meant a lot of noise. The church was destroyed during the warsaw uprising of 1944 but was painstakingly rebuilt after the war. The organ was built in Salzburg and is the largest in Warsaw
