Musketeers: "Huge Portions-Convivial Atmosphere-Draught Moretti" Great Dunmow Restaurant Tip by MikeStarr5
Great Dunmow Restaurants: 4 reviews and 4 photos
We were working locally and were looking for an unfussy restaurant for a bite to eat and somewhere to sit while we killed some time. We came across Musketeers and it ticked all the boxes.
It was late and there was a "closed" sign on the door but there were still quite a few diners inside, so we gingerly plucked up courage and went in. We were greeted very warmly by the owner and shown to our table.
We soon picked up the friendly local buzz, with the staff addressing the diners by their first names and everyone laughing and joking. It was lovely.
The menu was quite long. It was obvious that this restaurant catered for breakfasts, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and evening meals.
I choose poached salmon and prawns served in a delicious, "more-ish" white wine sauce (Priced at £9.25 - June 2010). I am officially on a bit of a diet, so I thought this would be ideal.
My partner, Shelley went for some tapas style dishes .... Houmous & Pitta Bread (£3.75); potato wedges and a choice of dip (£3.95) and Goats' Cheese & Tomato Bites (£4.25).
My generous portion of salmon arrived on a large plate accompanied by a huge medley of vegetables including broccoli, courgettes, carrots and 2 sorts of potato.
Shelley's tapas dishes were also huge but every item was spot on and irresistable. Temptation, I am afraid, got the better of us and we cheerfully munched our way through the lot. I am sure we would have had a dessert too, if we had only room for one.
We could not fault the Musketeers for quantity, quality, atmosphere or price.
It is also worth mentioning that they offer free wi-fi and Moretti lager on draught - A most unusual choice and again very tasty.
We will certainly be dining at the Musketeers next time we are in the area, failing that we may even have to make a special trip - It is only about an hour away from "Barking Town" where we live.
(See my Barking Town VT Page for numerous tips on dining and sightseeing in our neck of the woods.)
